Why didn’t they build them like this at the factory?

1963 Shasta Compact

Franie Sanford’s 1963 Shasta Compact trailer is unmistakable with its uniquely hinged rear door. Similar to a teardrop-style trailer, the entire back end of this tiny trailer opens to reveal the traditionally restored interior of this glamper. This fair weather feature gives Franie much more space to spread out her collectibles and entertain friends while social distancing at her campsite. This fun-ctional design begs the question, “Why didn’t they build them like this at the factory?”

  1. I know the guy that designed and built Frannie’s Shasta Compact. It is an all steel square tube framework with a hinged rear wall that opened up and had a ramp so you could use it like a toy hauler. Great idea but it had many problems with craftmanship. It is beautiful now after they fixed all of the issues it had. Very cool idea. First of anything is always an experiment……. That is the trailer that put The Canned Ham man out of business….. Too bad ,
