Josh and Kandas Tedesco from Corryton, TN, are the proud owners of Jane the Camper, a 1977 Serro Scotty Sportsman. Camping has always been a way of life for both of them, with childhood memories full of spring breaks, summer trips, and weekend getaways in the great outdoors.
Their journey with Jane began with a chance encounter. While camping, a park ranger living in a Scotty Hi-Lander invited them to take a tour. That tiny trailer sparked a big dream, and their search for a vintage camper began in 2014.
After months of searching, they found a trailer for sale online in Birmingham, AL. The family decided it was an opportunity they couldn’t pass up. The trip resulted in two campers: one for Kandas and one for her sister, giving rise to the “Glamper Sisters.”
Restoring Jane was a family affair. With Kandas’s dad leading the charge as a seasoned contractor and Josh stepping in as a skilled handyman, everyone pitched in to bring the camper back to life. Gutted when they purchased it, Jane’s layout was reimagined and reworked to fit their needs. After months of hard work, Jane emerged as a bright, cheerful, and uniquely customized vintage camper.
For Kandas, seeing her vision for Jane come to life was a dream come true. Along the way, they inspired friends and family to join the vintage camper movement. While the restoration process came with its challenges (and a few “Why did I let you talk me into this?” moments), the reward of hitting the road with a community of vintage camping enthusiasts made it all worthwhile.
Lessons were learned along the way—most notably, how to properly seal a camper. Leaky windows taught them the hard way, with more than one morning spent waking up in a pool of water.
The past several years with Jane have been filled with adventure, laughter, and new friendships. Being part of the vintage camper community has been a joy for Josh and Kandas, and they’re excited to see where the road will take them next.
