The 1992 Airstream Land Yacht M-26 is one of the rarest travel trailers ever produced by Airstream, with only thirteen units built. This limited run stands out in the company’s history for its unique approach to design and construction.

Departing from Airstream’s iconic polished aluminum body, the M-26 featured a fiberglass exterior with sharp-edged styling. Among enthusiasts, this look earned it the nickname “Squarestream.” It was part of the Land Yacht line, which was known for comfort, durability, and high-end amenities, even in this experimental form.
Measuring approximately 26 feet in length and with a wide-body design, the M-26 offered generous interior space. Standard features included an awning, stabilizer jacks, a microwave, an AM/FM cassette stereo, air conditioning, and a spacious floorplan suited for extended travel. Some models incorporated double slide-outs, further enhancing the living area.

Because only thirteen were produced, the M-26 rarely appears on the market, making it highly sought after by collectors and vintage trailer enthusiasts. Those who have seen one in person know it represents a unique moment in Airstream’s evolution—when the company briefly explored alternatives to its famous aluminum curves.

Today, surviving examples of the M-26 are celebrated not only for their rarity but also for the story they tell about innovation, risk-taking, and design experimentation in the early 1990s. For collectors, owning one is less about nostalgia alone and more about preserving an unusual and short-lived piece of Airstream history.
