You’re Ahead with a Kozy Coach Behind

The Rise of Kozy Coach

During the late 1920s and into the pre-WWII era, the travel trailer industry flourished despite economic hardships. One standout manufacturer was Kozy Coach, based in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Known for their effective marketing, they enticed buyers with slogans like “You’re Ahead with a Kozy Coach Behind” and “Favorite of the Road-Wise.” Their trailers were built on a welded steel chassis designed to prevent sagging and side-sway, ensuring a smooth and stable ride. By 1937, Kozy Coach offered three models—the Junior, Standard, and Deluxe—each bringing a new level of comfort to life on the road.

A Rare Find with a Unique Story

One remarkable Kozy Coach has survived in near-original condition, thanks to an unusual history. Originally purchased by a Wisconsin farmer in 1937, the trailer was taken on a single four-day trip through “The Dairyland” state before being carefully stored away in a barn. There it sat, untouched, until the early 1970s when it was sold to its current owner. With fresh tires, the trailer made the journey to Texas, where it was used for just one night—before being put into storage once again for over 40 years.

Preserved in Time

This rare Kozy Coach remains an incredible example of vintage travel trailer craftsmanship. The exterior has been carefully refreshed with varnish and trim paint while maintaining its original Masonite panels, which are in outstanding condition. Inside, the Art Deco-inspired woodwork, original fabrics, and varnished interior have been lovingly preserved, making this trailer a true time capsule.

A piece of history like this is more than just a trailer—it’s a glimpse into a bygone era of travel and adventure.
