Welcome to “Camp Tam,” where the 1964 Nomad known as “Know Me” and the 1966 BeeLine known as “Just Bee” reside in Tammera Lindsay’s inviting backyard in Mocksville, North Carolina.
Tammera’s love for vintage campers began eight years ago when she purchased the 1964 Nomad. She quickly discovered a strong community of enthusiasts who shared her passion. After putting in the work to restore the Nomad—completing the interior herself—she transformed “Know Me” into a stocked poolside bar and playhouse, one of her most fulfilling projects to date.
She has since designed her backyard into a camper paradise she calls “Camp Tam.” As you look through the photos taken by her daughter, it’s easy to see why. Both trailers are fully powered and can serve as guest sleeping quarters. Her grandsons, Conner and Alex, especially love spending time there—and it’s not hard to imagine why.
Beyond her love of vintage campers, Tammera is also an accomplished artist. Her campers have even appeared in her annual Christmas card paintings. She also has a deep and abiding love for animals. In her book, The Doe Family Finds a Deer, she shares her experiences as a North Carolina–permitted fawn rehabilitator. Over the years, she has cared for many fawns, returning them to the wild—sometimes spending nights in the woods to witness a doe reunite with her young.
The book tells the story of a family faced with difficult choices after bringing a fawn into their home. In a unique twist, Tammera presents the story twice, offering two different outcomes. The book also features her own nature photography, including images of a fawn named Marteen and others she has rehabilitated—yet another example of her many talents. Around the time of the book’s release, she also held a month-long exhibit at a local gallery, filling the space entirely with her artwork.
Tammera’s daughter, Jessica Marie, is the photographer behind the images that accompany this story. Through Jessica Marie Photography, she occasionally uses her mother’s vintage campers as backdrops for photo shoots.
