As designers, we’ve always been drawn to classic American design, and a vintage Airstream perfectly captures that spirit of road trips and summer adventure. Renovating Izzy in our backyard became a two-year labor of love, where we learned everything from riveting to plumbing—and did plenty of polishing along the way. Beyond the work itself, the real reward has been the community: swapping stories, touring other trailers, and connecting with people who share a passion for preserving rolling pieces of history.

Structurally, we were fortunate—the shell, frame, and floor were solid—so we focused on sealing, safety upgrades, and restoring the exterior’s shine while keeping its well-earned patina. Inside, we modernized everything from electrical to plumbing, replacing outdated systems and reimagining the layout to create a cleaner, more functional space. Thoughtful design choices—like a hidden induction cooktop, portable HVAC, and durable yet stylish materials—helped maintain the trailer’s original lines while improving comfort and usability.

Rallies became the perfect way to enjoy Izzy, extending our living space outdoors with a comfortable, inviting setup under the original awning. At home, we took it a step further—turning the trailer into a backyard centerpiece for entertaining, relaxing, and even hosting overnight guests. What started as a restoration project has become both a creative outlet and a daily source of enjoyment. While the journey is far from perfect, it’s been incredibly rewarding—and like any vintage trailer, it’s always evolving.
