A Manor on the Road, and a Mansion in our House

You may not know them as Steve and Paula since their “trailer park names” are Sugar and Booger! (Booger is the first to tell you which one is Sugar!) We loved the idea of “trailer park names” and will never forget theirs! Fun and easy to remember! We met them on their way home to Omak, Washington, at the Tiki Trailerfest 2 Rally in Hollister, CA. They were en route with “Mona,” their 1948 Spartan Manor, coming from the 75th Anniversary Spartan Rally in Tulsa, OK. (They won the “Best Body” award for their trailer.) “Mona” is mostly original, right down to the floor coverings. This summer, they did 9,000 miles with stops in Chicago, IL, and Santa Monica, CA. Their positive presence at Trailerfest was infectious and reinforced what we always say about the hobby-The trailers bring us together; the people keep us coming back.

Sugar and Booger, AKA Paula and Steve, in “Mona,” their mostly original 1948 Spartan Manor.

“You can’t take it with you” is true of their other Spartan trailer. Last year they built a new house that incorporated a 1957 Royal Mansion into the floorplan! (See gallery below) Housing a bar, lounge area, and ½ bathroom, the beautifully refurbished mid-century mansion overlooks the Okanogan River leading to the Columbia. The trailer was restored on three sides using parts and materials from the fourth side that does not show. New doors were acquired from Dan Piper at Vintage Campers in Peru, IN. The trailer had to be craned into place and sits on four-foot-tall stem walls.

The “Aluma Room” is always on Tulsa time, but when Booger gets bored, he has a 1946 Spartan Manor he is in the process of refurbishing. The ‘46 is gutted, so it will be a collaboration of the team of Sugar and Booger. A pair you won’t soon forget.
