Richard La Secla rolled into the pirate-themed vintage trailer rally in Malibu, California, with his 1957 Aljo, camping alongside his brother Dave and Dave’s 1969 Cardinal.
The rally brought together a great mix of vintage trailers in all stages of restoration, from polished showpieces to campers proudly wearing decades of history. The brothers can also be found at Trailerfest Rallies in So Cal.
Richard’s Aljo stood out for its unusual interior layout. Inside, the trailer had been restored while keeping much of its original look and character. Outside, Richard chose to preserve the Aljo’s original patina rather than give it a fresh paint job.
It brings up a question vintage trailer owners often face: To paint or not to paint?
For some owners, shiny new paint is the finishing touch on a restoration. For others, faded paint, scratches, and weathered aluminum are part of the trailer’s story and deserve to be preserved.
With Richard’s 1957 Aljo and Dave’s 1969 Cardinal parked side by side, the La Secla brothers made quite a pair of vintage canned hams—and a great example of how every vintage trailer can have its own personality.
