A 1950 Spartanette With Seven Decades of Original Character

1950 Spartanette Tandem 30', Second Owner, 21+ Years in Private Collection - Highly Original Survivor

Some vintage trailers are restored until almost every surface looks new. Others tell their story through the details that have remained in place for generations. This 1950 Spartanette Tandem belongs to the second group.

The 30-foot trailer has had just two owners, with the current owner caring for it as part of a private collection for more than 21 years. Originally purchased from a family in eastern Tennessee, the Spartanette remains remarkably original, including approximately 98 percent of its unrestored birch interior.

That warm woodwork has never been painted, and many of the smaller details that often disappear over the years are still present. Original window hardware, screen doors, glass exterior running lights and Bargman door handles remain with the trailer. There is even a working brass mechanical doorbell.

The kitchen retains its original Dixie stove and a larger, factory-upgraded Frigidaire refrigerator. Other unusual features include a floor-to-ceiling pantry separating the kitchen and living room, a curved corner appliance cabinet and a white enamel sink with an integrated drainboard.

In the rear bedroom, a double bed shares the space with a corner vanity complete with a mirror and makeup storage. The bathroom features an uncommon factory white wet-bath design, while the trailer’s rear exterior still carries distinctive arrow-shaped turn signals.

Period-appropriate furnishings add to the overall character, including a sleeper sofa, folding dining table, metal chairs and vintage-style curtains. Two custom Marti’s Awnings are also included: a rear window awning and a full-length side awning with wooden poles and guy ropes.

Although originality has been the priority, a few practical upgrades make the trailer more comfortable to use. Those include a roof-mounted air conditioner, an updated electrical panel, an electric front jack and a newer water heater. The original aluminum exterior was painted silver approximately 15 years ago.

Like most 76-year-old trailers, this Spartanette has a few items a future owner will want to address. The tires are older, the trailer brakes need attention and a previously leaking rear window caused some localized interior damage. A replacement window frame is included.
