Return to Route 66 Brings Vintage Campers and Classic Cars Together in Ohio

Submitted by Brian Bielinski

Each year, vintage campers and classic cars come together for Return to Route 66 at Roundup Lake Campground in Mantua, Ohio. The event has been held annually since 2022 and is a collaboration between the campground and the Trailerites Vintage Camping Group.

Return to Route 66 began as one of Roundup Lake’s themed weekends. Since then, Trailerites has taken on the role of hosting the event, helping it grow into a favorite weekend for vintage camping enthusiasts.

The event officially runs Thursday through Sunday on the weekend after Memorial Day each year, though some campers arrive as early as Tuesday. Attendance typically includes more than 30 vintage campers, while the classic car show draws around 50 vehicles.

Saturday is the big day, featuring a vintage camper open house and classic car show. The two are intertwined throughout the show area, giving visitors a chance to enjoy both restored campers and classic automobiles. Immediately following the show, the classic car parade winds through the entire campground, led by the Roundup fire truck.

Food trucks are on site during the day, and a live band provides entertainment in the evening. Other weekend activities include a vintage toy show, Hot Wheels racing, and evening community bonfires.

Roundup Lake Campground is a first-class, family-friendly campground with plenty for all ages to enjoy. Trailerites was formed in 2015 by a group of vintage camper and motorhome enthusiasts who share a love for camping the way it used to be.

Through Return to Route 66, the group continues to keep the spirit of traveling Route 66 during its heyday alive.
