Retro Diners and Destinations

Over the years, we at Heffrons have had the privilege of working with some great restaurants and diners across the country and throughout the world. In fact, we often have RV customers ask us about the locations they see in our photo gallery. While it would be impossible to list them all, we thought it would be fun to mention some of our favorite destinations worth visiting on your next road trip.

Anthony’s Food Shop – York, ME

Anthony’s Food Shop has been around since 1989 and they do it all. They have a wood-stone fire-deck pizza oven, fully equipped scratch bakery, café, and coffee roasting facility. They’ve become one of the most iconic establishments on the seacoast.

The Candy Bank – Mandeville, LA

The Candy Bank is a nostalgic candy store featuring a gazillion different candies, an out-of-this-world ice cream parlor, and a large variety of homemade fudge in Old Mandeville near New Orleans. They also host birthday parties, which sounds like a child’s dream come true!

Chatham Filling Station – Chatham, MA

The Chatham Filling Station is known for serving some of the best breakfast in Chatham, MA. In fact the Cape Code Times called their “filling station sandwich” phenomenal. Inside, you’ll find a great atmosphere filled with vintage memorabilia from the era of roadside diners.

Joe’s Italian Ice – Cocoa Anaheim, CA

There’s no guesswork when it comes to what Joe’s specializes in. They aren’t shy about telling you they have the best Italian Ice on the planet. All recipes are created in-house and sold exclusively at Joe’s. If Italian Ice isn’t your thing, they also offer ice cream and lattes. If you are visiting California, this is a place worth making the trip for.

Shorty’s – Hamilton, Ontario

If you’re in Canada and looking for some great NYC/Brooklyn style pizza than be sure to check out Shorty’s. They plan to be opening around June so if you happen to be in the area when they open, tell them that www.Heffrons.com sent you.

The Duce – Phoenix, AZ

Slide open the vintage steel doors and you’ll ask yourself, “where the heck am I?” The Duce is a one of a kind location that features great food, music, games and even a boxing ring. The Duce has even been featured on ESPN’s Mike & Mike in the Morning and the TV show “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” with Guy Fieri.

The Sunliner Diner – Gulf Shores, Alabama. Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and Orange Beach, Alabama.

The Sunliner Diner is turning back the hands of time to the 1950s. Where family and friends can connect over hamburgers and cherry pie, listen to rock ‘ n ‘ roll, and even take a spin down Beach Road in one of the classic Sunliner convertibles available to rent in front of the restaurant.
