Ted and Becky Nelson of Santa Rosa, California celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on June 3, 2018—and they did it in true vintage trailer style. To mark the milestone, the Nelsons set an ambitious goal: visit 40 states in 2018.
Much of their travel has been behind the wheel of Ted’s 1965 Ford F100, towing their beautifully matched 1962 Shasta Astroflyte. In just nine days, they logged more than 2,500 miles, including a stretch of historic Route 66, traveling from Northern California through some of the Southwest’s most iconic destinations. Their route included Grand Canyon National Park, Monument Valley, Moab, Arches National Park, Capitol Reef National Park, and Zion National Park.
According to the Nelsons, the trip was a fantastic experience from start to finish. They were only stopped once—by an Arizona Highway Patrol officer who followed them into a gas station, not for any trouble, but simply to admire and talk about their classic truck and trailer.
With one unforgettable journey already under their belts, Ted and Becky are currently planning their next adventure. Keep your eyes peeled—you never know when this vintage rig might roll through your neck of the woods!
