“Wing It” — Restoring a 1964 Shasta Airflyte and Hitting the Road!

Sometimes the best plan… is no plan at all! That was certainly the case for Kevin and Sharon Sopata of Macedonia, Ohio, when they rescued their vintage 1964 Shasta Airflyte from the frozen ground in March of 2015. Buried and weather-worn, the little trailer needed some serious TLC—but the Sopatas weren’t about to let that stop them.

They dove into the restoration themselves, learning as they went. When friends and family would inevitably ask, “How are you going to fix this? What about that?” their response was simple and honest: “We’re gonna wing it!” That attitude stuck, and before long, their shiny restored Shasta had earned its name—“Wing It.”

The Sopatas didn’t waste any time showing off their hard work. Sharon discovered a vintage trailer rally in Ohio—the On The Road Again (OTRA) Rally—and they decided to give it a go. Amazingly, this was only their second time camping in Wing It, but that didn’t stop them from making a big impression. By the end of the rally, they proudly took home 1st Place People’s Choice—a well-deserved reward for their hard work, perseverance, and a little “wingin’ it” spirit.

For Kevin and Sharon, their Shasta isn’t just a project—it’s their ticket to adventure. They plan to hit the road and explore the great USA, one campsite at a time. And what better way to experience the beauty of America than in a classic Shasta Airflyte, with its unmistakable vintage lines, signature wings, and retro two-tone color scheme?

If you could pick your dream Shasta color combo, what would it be? Red, yellow, blue, coral—or something completely different? Let us know in the comments!
