Tim Heintz, founder of Heintz Designs Vintage Trailer Restorations, turned his passion for collecting and restoring vintage trailers into a full-fledged business in 2007. With over 25 years of experience, Tim and his team have restored several hundred trailers, spanning eras from the 1920s to the 1970s. Their dedication to craftsmanship and historical authenticity ensures that every project receives the same meticulous care as the trailers in their personal collection.
While Heintz Designs works on trailers of all styles, they specialize in models from the 1930s to the 1950s, including aluminum riveted trailers through 2025. Their team’s expertise, which includes backgrounds in shipbuilding, aeronautical aluminum construction, architecture, and CNC machining, sets them apart in the vintage restoration community. Tim’s extensive historical knowledge further enriches every restoration project.
Heintz Designs has tackled many notable projects, such as the custom 1957 Airfloat Landyacht featured on Travel Channel’s Extreme RVs and the award-winning 1951 Vagabond Model 34, celebrated in numerous publications. A particularly personal favorite for Tim is the ongoing restoration of his grandparents’ 1958 Skyline Deluxe, which has remained in the family since its original purchase.
Beyond their restoration work, Heintz Designs plays an active role in the vintage trailer community. Tim, a Southeastern Representative for Tin Can Tourists, hosts vintage trailer events and lectures nationwide. He’s also a published author on RV lifestyles and contributed to the University of Ohio Bowling Green’s research department. His trailers have been fetured in the Vintage Camper Trailers magazine and he is a presenter at the VCT Boot Camp online restoration summit and the in-person versions of Boot Camp in 2023 and 2025.
Heintz Designs offers a wide range of services, from full restorations and custom manufacturing to minor repairs and system upgrades. They also provide specialized services like vintage trailer consignment, custom rock guards, and insurance appraisals.
Tim advises anyone considering their first vintage trailer restoration to do their research, attend shows, and ensure legal paperwork is in order before making a purchase. For Heintz Designs, restoring vintage trailers isn’t just a business—it’s a labor of love. Their goal is to help others preserve and enjoy these unique pieces of Americana for years to come.
