Trailerfest Rallies are always something special, but this year’s Military Appreciation – 1940s theme struck a particularly meaningful chord. Hosted in Northern California, Trailerfest once again took over an entire campground, filling it with 150 to 280 pre-1972 trailers, vintage RVs, and classic cars—all wrapped in red, white, and blue.
Each Trailerfest Rally carries its own unique theme, and this one paid heartfelt tribute to those who served in the armed forces. From the moment guests arrived, the attention to detail set the tone. Every attendee received authentic souvenir dog tags, a patriotic flag or red, white, and blue pinwheel, and a specially printed rally newspaper. The newspaper included the full weekend itinerary along with photos of all the rally guests who had served in the military—a touching and personal way to recognize their service.

Most participants rolled in on Thursday for what had long been a sold-out event. The weekend kicked off with a classic potluck dinner, bringing neighbors together the best way vintage trailer folks know how—over great food and easy conversation.

Saturday brought the rally’s most memorable moments as Ted Nelson blew reveille, officially launching the Military Parade March. Guests proudly participated on foot, on bikes, and in vintage military vehicles, parading through the entire park. Campsites came alive as onlookers waved flags, smiled, and cheered—a scene that perfectly blended patriotism with pure fun.

Saturday night closed the rally in true period style with a Glenn Miller–inspired band that transported everyone straight back to the 1940s. Many guests dressed in period-correct attire and military uniforms, filling the campground with swing music, dancing, and nostalgia under the stars.

By the time the weekend wrapped up, one thing was clear: this rally was a hit. Laughter, gratitude, and great memories carried everyone home, and many attendees were already talking about what’s next.
Looking ahead, Trailerfest will revisit the military theme this spring in San Dimas, California, with an all-new twist. The upcoming rally, “In the Navy,” promises another immersive experience—complete with a Polynesian dancer show on Saturday night.
If this year’s Military Appreciation rally proved anything, it’s that Trailerfest knows how to honor history while delivering an unforgettable weekend. Here’s to the next adventure.
